If the appropriate vacutainer is not available, please contact Cytogenetics for alternative instructions. Transport at room temperature.

PARAFFIN EMBEDDED TISSUE – Submit four slides per probe. Sections should be two microns on plus slides. Also submit an H&E slide with the critical region circled.

PERIPHERAL BLOOD - Chromosome study requires 5-10cc of blood for adult patients and a minimum of 2cc for children. Obtain a venous blood specimen in a green-topped, sodium heparin vacutainer. Invert tube to mix well. If the appropriate vacutainer is not available, please contact Cytogenetics for alternative instructions. Transport at room temperature.

TUMOR TISSUE/OTHER TISSUE – Tissues should be obtained as soon after removal as possible. Attempt should be made to obtain viable tissue which is free of bacterial contamination. Place the tissue in a sterile container. DO NOT place tissue in formaldehyde or formalin. Transport at room temperature.
