Dr. Goins-Fernandez Named Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

I am happy to announce that Dr. Joyce Goins-Fernandez in the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics has been appointed to the position of Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Stead Family Department of Pediatrics effective June 1, 2021.

Dr. Goins Fernandez received her BS in Psychology from Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans in 2000, and completed her pre-doctoral internship at Butler University/BehaviorCorp consortium in 2009. She completed her PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Iowa in 2012 and was a research associate in the Department of Psychiatry in the lab of Dr. Peg Nopoulos until 2014. From 2014-2018 she was a senior psychologist in the Assessment and Counseling Clinic at the Belin-Blank International Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development at the University of Iowa, before joining the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics as Clinical Assistant Professor in December 2018.

Since her arrival in the Department, Dr. Goins-Fernandez has been very active as co-chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and has led several initiatives within the Department, the institution, and across the University through the Center for Advancement highlighting DEI activities and resources available to all.
