Catherine Marcinkiewcz, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Neuroscience & Pharmacology, was awarded a 5-year $1.9 million National Institutes of Health/National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIH/NIAAA) R01 Research Grant entitled “Alcohol and the Serotonin System in the Progression of Alzheimer’s Disease.” The goal of this project is to provide mechanistic insight into the impact of chronic alcohol on early accumulation and spread of tau pathology in the brain and later development of cognitive and memory deficits.
