Tuesday, July 02, 2013
The Safety Training for ATV Riders (STARs) Program has been honored as a Program of Excellence at the annual meeting of the International Society for Agricultural Safety and Health (ISASH). The University of Iowa program was selected as as one of 12 programs for such recognition. The Programs of Excellence were selected by peers from all abstracts submitted.
Each year, there are more than 200 all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crashes in Iowa. The UI STARs Program works to educate riders on the proper and safest ways to enjoy an ATV, through the design, implementation and assessment of safety programs, demonstrations and workshops. The research arm of the program focuses on risk factors and simulation to study injury prevention.
