Level I Trauma Center
The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics has once again been verified as a Level I Trauma Center and as a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. This achievement recognizes the trauma center's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients. Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance.
Verified Burn Treatment Center
Based on a rigorous review, the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association--two national organizations--jointly identified the UI Hospitals and Clinics Burn Treatment Center as a verified burn care center for high-quality care, making us the only verified burn center in Iowa (2006). We are one of only 40 to 45 burn centers in the United States that is officially verified by the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons. The center treats more than 800 adult and pediatric burn and trauma patients each year.
Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence
UI Obesity Surgery is an internationally respected program that has received several designations that underscore the program's demonstrated track record of outstanding clinical outcomes and comprehensive commitment to the highest level of bariatric care.
Top 100 Great Iowa Nurses 2012
Two nurses from the Surgery Specialty Clinic have been named to the list of 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2012. Donna Dolezal and Sandra Roberts have been recognized for their qualities of outstanding leadership, society participation, and their contributions to the mission and vision of their clinical services.
