The College of Pharmacy will award two awards of $350 at each poster session.

The College of Public Health will award three awards of $350.

The Institute for Clinical and Translational Science will award two awards of $350 at each poster session and one award of $350 for an Iowa State University entry.

The VA Health System will award three professional development awards of $350.

    Judging Criteria

The abstract will be judged in conjunction with the poster. The individual presenting the poster must be present during the entire session. There is a 250-word limit, excluding the title and authors. Submissions for judging by the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science will need to include an explanation of how the entry fits into one of four areas of translational science listed below.

    • T1 translational research (i.e., translation to humans) involves the testing of findings from basic research for clinical effect and/or applicability in humans and is exemplified by preclinical studies, animal models of human disease, and first-in-human studies (i.e., healthy volunteers; proof of concept studies; and Phase 1 clinical trials).
    • T2 translational research (i.e., translation to patients) involves the testing of new treatments and interventions under controlled environments to form the basis for clinical application and evidence-based guidelines and exemplified by Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials, and uncontrolled observational studies or case series.
    • T3 translational research (i.e., translation to medical practice) involves the application of recommendations or guidelines in the medical practices which patients typically frequent to yield knowledge about how interventions work in real-world settings and is exemplified by: Phase 4 clinical trials, dissemination, implementation, and communications studies; and clinical outcomes and comparative effectiveness research.
    • T4 translational research (i.e., translation to populations) involves the development of new health policies to benefit populations; is based on successful T1, T2, and T3 studies; and is exemplified by population-level outcomes studies and studies of social determinants of health.

    Board Specifications

Poster boards have a display area of approximately 4'x6'. Presenters are reminded that they are discouraged from tacking posters to the wooden frame surrounding the display area in order to preserve the condition of the boards for future use.
