     Cover Art Contest

    The 2015 Cover Art contest, held in conjunction with Health Sciences Research Week, is open to all Research Week participants.  Students, post-doctoral researchers, staff and faculty are invited to submit mini-posters in the form of journal covers that emphasize a scientific finding, concept or image.   There will be two categories this year:  Scientific Humor and Creative Cover Art. 

    Contest Rules:  

    1. Entries must be self-made, original and unpublished.
    2. Maximum of two entries per person.
    3. Entries must be emailed to Sonya Housholder by Monday, March 30 at 5:00 p.m.
    4. High-resolution files are preferred, but not required.
    5. By submitting an image, the submitter gives permission for CCOM to use the image for other purposes/projects including, but not limited to, public display, featured on our websites and/or use in institutional publications.
    6. Accepted entries should be printed on letter-size paper (landscape or portrait orientation) and posted in the MERF Atrium at an assigned cover art number by Tuesday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m.  Cover Art Numbers for posting images will be emailed by Friday, April 17.

    Submission Process:  

    Submissions should be sent electronically to Sonya Housholder by Monday, March 30 at 5:00 pm. Submissions must include a completed Entry Form

    Scientific Humor:

    • It is preferred for entries to be related to your research.
    • The entry could be line art, a cartoon or a figure.  Text could also be present.
    • Entries will be judged by popular vote cast by the public at a reception booth in the MERF Atrium on April 21 and 22, 1:00-4:00 pm.
    • The top three entries will be awarded prizes.

    Creative Cover Art:

    • Entries should be related to your research.
    • The art has to include at least these three parts.
      • Result(s) from your experiments (depicted, for example, as a line plot, contour plot, heat map, microscopy image, protein structure, etc).
      • A second conceptual layer that puts your results in context or highlights the "bigger picture".
      • Include the journal title "Health Sciences Research Week" at the top of the page. 
    • Tag lines are optional.
    • Posted artwork at Research Week should include a separate page with the description of your artwork, not to exceed five lines.
    • Entries will be judged by a panel of judges.
    • The top three entries will be awarded prizes.
