    The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa is committed to transforming the understanding, prevention, detection, and treatment of major mental illness through its extensive research initiatives.

    Using the most advanced methods and technologies available, we have made and continue to make significant discoveries on a range of psychiatric disorders and disciplines including aging disorders and dementias, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, epidemiology, genetics, health services, neuroimaging, neuropsychology, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, consultation-liaison psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, medical psychiatry, and telepsychiatry.

    We are ranked #18 in National Institutes of Health (NIH) research funding, have dozens of research initiatives in progress, and publish over 150 scientific papers annually.

    We take great pride in our faculty's many contributions to the field, and our research continues to be cutting edge.
