Training
Beth Troutman, PhD, clinical associate professor at the University of Iowa, trains providers across the Midwest in parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT). Training is typically conducted in small groups (maximum of 8 therapists per trainer) and involves a total of 56 hours of face-to-face contact and monthly consultation calls with Troutman. Participants learn about child directed interaction (CDI) and parent directed interaction (PDI). They also learn to code parent and child behavior using the Dyadic Parent-Child Interaction Coding System (DPICS) and to coach parents in conducting child directed interaction (CDI) and parent directed interaction (PDI) with their child.
In order to participate in parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) training, providers must have a master’s degree or higher in the mental health field.
