Continued improvement and growth in our training programs at all levels distinguish the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics. The success of our training programs is evident from Board examination pass rates, generation of interest in subspecialty training and producing physicians with interests in academic careers.
The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics offers a 3-year fully accredited general pediatric residency program for 13 residents in each year. The pediatric inpatient and outpatient services provide the resident with a wide variety of clinical issues of varied complexity and in-depth experience in primary and continuity care. The program includes broad experience in all aspects of human growth and development from the neonatal period, infancy and childhood to adolescence. Residents are exposed to conditions ranging from minor illnesses to life threatening conditions requiring intensive care. They experience health supervision of the well child and manage common diseases encountered in office-based pediatric practice, including psychological and social problems. The strength and breadth of our specialty rotations prepare the resident not only to provide primary care, but to serve as a consultant in the care of seriously ill children for community providers.
