Core Hematology Laboratory

- Full service laboratory operating 24 hours per day, sever days per week.
- Most analyses are performed using highly complex, automated and computer interfaced instrumentation
- In a 24-hour period many tests are performed, approximately:
- 450 CBC's (complete blood cell counts)
- 250 white blood cell differentials and
- 100 urinalysis procedures
- In addition to high volume tests, the core area performs analyses that include:
- body fluid cell counts
- hemoglobin electrophoresis
- hemoglobin F & A2 determinations
- sickle cell solubility screens
- infectious mononucleosis screens
- red cell enzyme measurements
- Point-of-Care (POC) testing continues to grow. Tests offered in the POC laboratory include:
- Strep screens
- Hemoccult
- Urine and serum pregnancy testing
- Fetal fibronectin test
- Gastroccult and urine specific gravity
- Drugs of abuse
