Research activities pertain to the following three general areas:

1. The epidemiology and mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis together with effective laboratory methods for detecting resistance.

2. The clinical impact and cost ramifications of diagnostic microbiology.

3. The development and evaluation of rapid diagnostic methods in clinical microbiology.
