The MDA provides basic photographic and graphic services strictly to University of Iowa Department of Pathology personnel on a first come, first served basis. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Open office hours are 7:30-9:00 a.m., other times by chance or (preferably) appointment. Messages or work may be left in the Pathology Learning Center (PLC), 100 Medical Laboratories. Electronic files may be deposited in the “MDA Drop” folder on the Pathology server (HEALTHCARE>HCFILE4>PATHOLOGY>MDA DROP). Be sure to call or e-mail to insure the files were received.


Graphic Services Offered

Turnaround Time

  • Digital image editing
  • Generally 2 days, depending on quantity and complexity (cropping, composites, levels, color correction, etc.)
  • Simple graphics
  • Generally 2 days, depending on quantity and complexity (poster titles, small signs, diagrams, graphs, etc.)
  • Layouts
  • Generally 2 days per item, depends on complexity (combinations of text and graphics, flyers, brochures, announcements, etc.)
  • Mounting (< 11”x17”), laminating, trimming
  • Generally 2 days, depending on quantity
  • Wide format posters for meetings
  • Please allow 1 week minimum, see Wide Format Poster Guidelines (above, left)
  • CD, DVD burning
  • Generally 1 day, depending on size and quantity
  • 2 sided inkjet printing, up to 11”x17”
  • 1-5 days, depending on quantity
  • Large jobs, consultations and free advice

Out-of-House Film
Processing & Printing

Turnaround Time
(Leave film for processing in PLC)

  • Ektachrome film
  • In by noon, back by 1 p.m. the following workday
    Same day service available - with notice – no delivery:  contact MDA
  • Color, B&W print film with contact sheet or 4”x6” machine prints
  • 3 days
  • Custom enlargements from B&W or color negatives or slides
  • 3-5 days   
  • Slide duplicates
  • Depends on quantity, generally 3 days

Any order with a due date that does not reflect these turnaround times is considered a rush order and will be accommodated only if it will not cause a disruption of work flow. Such jobs are referred to: Creative Media (1185 Westlawn, 335-7700).
