Research: Dr. Meyerholz is a veterinary pathologist with a major interest in pulmonary pathology, immunity and disease. His research involves examination, detection and interpretation of cellular changes associated with cystic fibrosis, RSV, influenza, SARS-CoV and other pulmonary diseases. His lab specializes in anatomic phenotyping of new CF models (e.g. pig, ferret) and in developing novel morphologic techniques for the detection of cellular disease markers in the lung. In addition, his lab investigates regulation of inflammatory mediators in acute model of pancreatis model, phenotypic characterization of novel oncogenes, and immunopathology associated with chronic ethanol ingestion.

Dr. Meyerholz directs the Comparative Pathology Laboratory (CPL), which provides UI Investigators with scientific support including necropsy, gross and microscopic examination/interpretation, comprehensive anatomic phenotyping, histology services and scientific consultation.

Interests: Atherosclerosis, Bone healing, Cancer pathobiology, Comparative pathology, Cystic fibrosis, Developmental disease, Ethanol-associated immunopathology, Models of human disease, Pancreatitis, Pulmonary pathology, Viral pathogenesis (e.g. Influenza, RSV, SARS-CoV, etc.)
