FACULTY POSITIONS

Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology
The Department of Pathology of The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accepting applications for two faculty positions with responsibilities in both surgical pathology and cytopathology.  Successful candidates will be graduates of accredited residency programs, be board certified or eligible, and hold the credentials to obtain medical licensure in the State of Iowa.  Excellent general surgical pathology and cytopathology skills are required and those with fellowship level training in surgical pathology and/or cytopathology, subspecialty interest/training in pulmonary, gynecologic, or gastrointestinal pathology, and who have demonstrated the ability and/or potential to excel at scholarship and teaching are particularly desirable.

Forensic and Autopsy Pathology
The Department of Pathology of The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is accepting applications for a faculty position in forensic and autopsy pathology. The candidate should hold an M.D., M.D./Ph.D. D.O. or M.B.B.S. degree. Applicants must be a graduate of accredited pathology residency and forensic pathology fellowship programs, board certified or eligible in Anatomic Pathology and Forensic Pathology, and able to obtain medical licensure in the state of Iowa. This is a new position, created in anticipation of increased medical examiner case volume from SE Iowa. The successful applicant will join one board-certified forensic pathologist. Excellence in autopsy/forensic pathology is essential, and the new faculty member will have a strong interest in patiently mentoring pathology residents. Our graduating residents are skilled in general autopsy pathology and the fundamentals of forensic pathology. The successful applicant will also participate in a spectrum of educational and service activities of the medical school and university hospital, and demonstrate the ability/potential to excel at scholarship.

A new, university hospital-based autopsy facility will open in Nov 2008. The autopsy service currently performs approximately 300 autopsies per year, of which approximately 50% are medical examiner consent autopsies. Service coverage is provided by the forensic pathologist and many staff anatomic pathologists. Specialized neuropathology and pediatric pathology consultations are readily available in the anatomic pathology section of our department, in addition to excellent surgical pathology resources.
