Dr. Fierro-Fine Receives the Special Achievement in Pathology Award

Amelia Fierro-Fine, MD, a 2013 graduate of the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, received the Special Achievement in Pathology Award for 2013. This award is presented by The Iowa Association of Pathologists to a senior medical student every year for "meritorious participation throughout the four-year curriculum in programs related to pathology."
Dr. Amelia Fierro-Fine grew up in Ames, Iowa and received a BA in Chemistry at Carleton College. She spent the following year teaching in the Republic of the Marshall Islands before starting medical school at the University of Iowa in 2008. Between her third and fourth year of medical school Amelia joined the Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa as a Pathology Extern, during which time she not only solidified her interest in pathology as a career choice, but also participated in a research project in GI pathology, which she presented nationally. She will begin residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Oklahoma in July.
