Making a
Difference Award
Susie Goodell, Administrative Assistant for the Core Laboratory, saw a patient sitting in the lobby near the grand piano. Susie could hear the patient struggling to breathe and noted that her color did not look good.
Susie went up to the patient and asked if she needed assistance.
The patient responded that she had just completed her appointment at CHAMPS, didn't feel well, and thought she should go to the emergency room. Susie found a wheelchair and helped her into the chair. Susie took the patient to the ETC for treatment.
Congratuations Susie! You made a difference to someone by providing excellent service.

SPOT Award
Ed Solin, Research Assistant
Histology Research Laboratory
The Histology Research Laboratory is rapidly growing and more requests are being made for procedures that require new and unfamiliar chemicals. With Ed sharing his chemical knowledge, the HRL is properly handling and disposing of chemicals required in procedures as well as staying abreast of annual risk management recording and chemical inventory review. As supervisor of the HRL, I commend Ed for his willingness to undertake the chemical and safety concerns of the laboratory. It is hard for any of us to find time to research chemical safety and disposal so for Ed to share his knowledge is extremely helpful and Ed is very much a team player to do so.Nominated by Chris Hochstedler

Mary Sturm, HT(ASCP) QIHC, Histotechnologist
Histology Research Laboratory
Mary Sturm has contracted back from retirement three mornings a week to help the Histology Research Laboratory (HRL) manage their ever increasing workload. Recently a full time HRL employee had an extended leave due to an accident and Mary volunteered to work weekends to help fill in for the loss of this employee.
Mary's weekend work was so important to keep the HRL's projects on time. I knew I could always count on her to complete any work left for the weekend. Mary is an invaluable asset to the HRL and I want to recognize her extra effort.
