Urine More information
Collection Medium:
Urine - 24 hour/timed urine glass container with acid
Minimum:
24 hr collection; with 25 ml 6N HCl as preservative or random urine 
without preservative.  For peds, contact Pharmacy for correct amount of 
HCl.  Send 50 mL aliquot of well-mixed 24 hr sample; pediatric minimum 
is 10 mL.
Delivery Instructions:
Submit specimen to laboratory as soon as possible after
collection period is completed.
Analytic Time:
2 weeks
Reference Range:
By report.
Comments:
If screening for Neuroblastoma, the following tests need to be ordered: 
CATNBSU (Catecholamines, Fractionated), DOPNBSU (Dopamine), HVANBSU 
(Homovanillic Acid), METNBSU (Metanephrines), VMANBSU (Vanillylmandelic 
Acid).

Collection containers available from Pharmacy.  VMA, catecholamines and 
metanephrines may be done on same collection. Propranolol (Inderal) 
will falsely lower total metanephrines. Labetalol (Normodyne) can 
falsely elevate the apparent concentration of urine metanephrines.  
Creatinine done on sample at no additional charge.
