I grew up outside of Syracuse, New York with my two older brothers. When I was 12, my family came to Iowa to ride RAGBRAI (Register's annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa). Though I though initially this was the lamest vacation idea ever, I fell immediately in love with Iowa, it's people and landscape. I made good on my vow to return to Iowa for college. I attended The University of Iowa and graduated with a BS in Science Education in 1996. After working for several years out east in Christian missions, I returned to Iowa to attend the PA Program in 2002.
After graduation, I knew I would never leave Iowa. I worked as the faculty fellow and then in Internal Medicine at the VA. Since 2007 I have been working in the Emergency Room at UIHC and now am part-time on the PA faculty while continuing to work in the ER. I live in Iowa City with my husband, Bill, who is a physician at UIHC and our son, Lucas Hawk. Bill's older kids, Gabby and Nile, live with us part-time as well. We are gigantic Hawkeye fans. We also run medical clinics in Mexico through our church, so between the kids, the Hawks, and Mexico trips, our lives are full and overflowing.
