Opportunities for Student Research

The largest component of the IMSRP is the Summer Research Fellowship which has been offered at Iowa and supported by an NIH training grant since 1980.  Summer Research Fellowships are available to enrolled freshman medical students and to pre-freshmen students accepted for admission and provides medical students an early opportunity to participate in a focused research project for a three-month period.  This experience, while brief, is designed to interest medical students in research and to acquaint them with career possibilities in academic medicine.
