Community Health Outreach

UI Carver College of Medicine Medical Student

Community Health Outreach (CHO) is a student-organized and directed elective class for first and second year medical students who want to learn about the issues faced by medically underserved populations in the community. First-year students have the opportunity to learn about community service organizations that provide care and resources to underserved populations. Second-year students apply their knowledge from the first-year to a self-directed service project with an underserved population of their choosing. The overall goal of the CHO course is to expose students to specific concerns faced by various populations that can affect a person's overall state of health. Students will gain the knowledge necessary to become competent, compassionate clinicians for individuals from all populations.
