Admissions

Checklist for Pre-M1s

• Acceptance of Offer: Written confirmation of your acceptance of this offer of admission is required within two weeks of admissions (If you are declining or wish to subsequently withdraw this offer, please send written confirmation.) An e-mail to com-admissions@uiowa.edu is acceptable.
• Deposit: The UI Office of Admissions will request a $50 advanced payment to hold your place in the class. Please wait until you get the request from that office before sending in the deposit.
• Iowa Student Information System: Now that you have been admitted, you will be given a network account to access the Iowa Student Information System (ISIS). An e-mail will be sent providing login information in a few weeks.
• Transcripts: The UI Office of Admissions will request official transcripts in the letter you will soon receive from them. You will be able to determine receipt of your deposit and official transcripts after you have access to ISIS.
• Contact Changes: Please keep us informed of any contact information changes by emailing com-admissions@uiowa.edu or by calling us at 335-8052 or 800-493-7415. You will also need to go to ISIS to change your contact information with the University.
• Pre-M1 email list: You will receive an e-mail in the spring subscribing you to our list serve for Pre-M1's. We will use the list serve to contact you about important information on a regular basis.
• ICON (Iowa Courses OnLine) Pre-M1 Communications: You will be automatically connected to this website. You will use the same HawkID and password you use to access ISIS. We will post information you will need from the time you are admitted to the day of orientation. One special feature includes a "Shared Discussion" board allowing you to post your housing needs or to respond to other medical students' posts.
• CCOM Financial Aid Website: http://www.medicine.uiowa.edu/osac/financial/. Refer to this site for up-to-date financial aid information and how to apply for aid.
• Student Health Screening Forms: The health screening requirements are outlined at the UI Student Health website. http://www.uiowa.edu/~shs/general_info/forms.shtml under the Health Science Student Heading. You can download the Health Science Student forms at this site. Please review this information carefully and comply with these requirements prior to orientation. The Hepatitis B immunization series must be completed before the beginning of your second semester.
• UI Apartment Hunting Guide Website: http://www.uiowa.edu/~offcamp/finding.html. This site is available to help students navigate the campus and surrounding areas.
• Health Insurance: http://www.uiowa.edu/hr/benefits/health/student/index_grad_hs.html. All Carver College of Medicine students are required to maintain health insurance (or an equivalent alternative care plan) sufficient to satisfy minimum standards of coverage.  You may choose from either the UIGRADCare and SHIP.  If you have questions on the health insurance requirement, please call the Benefits Office at 319-335-2676 or toll free 877-830-4001. Disability insurance is not required. If you are interested in purchasing disability insurance, we suggest you to contact your local insurance agent. 
• Consider applying to the Introduction to Medical Education at Iowa (IMEI) summer program.
