The Heart of Student Life

Not sure where to look?
  • Admissions: We work actively with faculty, staff and current students to recruit excellent students from diverse backgrounds to the College of Medicine.
  • Administration: Our mission is to support, educate and develop competent and caring health care professionals in accordance with the goals, mission and values of the College.
  • Curriculum: We collaborate with faculty, staff and students to provide a vital, dynamic curriculum mindful of the needs of a changing society. We support the curriculum through the design, implementation and evaluation of course components.
  • Assessing clinical skills: We test students' clinical and interpersonal skills by placing them in realistic patient scenarios with specially-trained actors.
  • Registrar's Office : Our dedicated staff assist students with course and clerkship scheduling, registration, grades, academic calendars, awards, transcripts, enrollment verifications and board examinations. We also help fourth year students with the residency application process.
  • Student-run programs: We encourage the formation of a large variety of student interest groups.
  • Student counseling: We provide services and support to students by offering confidential counseling, academic advising, career counseling, and preventative outreach programming.
  • Financial aid services: We are committed to providing quality service to faculty, staff and students in the areas of financial aid/debt management advising, financial account management, OSAC human resource management, and OSAC budgetary oversight.
  • Learning Communities: We designed the Communities for Excellence in Learning and Leadership for Society (CELLS) to facilitate student involvement in peer-to-peer support and education, leadership and service-learning activities.
  • Research opportunities: We created the Iowa Medical Student Research Program to support, promote, and raise awareness about medical student research opportunities at the University of Iowa.
  • Global Opportunities: We foster learning and service opportunities to underserved patients around the world. In a rapidly changing world of health care delivery, patients, care givers, and administrators realize that much is to be gained by learning to better serve our diverse community of patients both within and outside of the US.
  • Diversity: we're committed to providing a supportive environment in which people from any background or culture may encounter each other in a spirit of cooperation, openness, and mutual respect.
  • Writing and humanities: We offer individual consultations for students to review and improve their scholarly and professional writing. We also coordinate extracurricular activities involving music, literature, and the visual and performing arts.
