    Elson with Residents

Faculty in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology contribute to a wide spectrum of educational programs. A six week core clerkship is taken by all medical students and M4 sub-internships are offered in gynecology, family planning, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and community-based obstetrics and gynecology. Approximately 12 second year physician assistant students also perform a one month rotation through the department as part of their training.

The department is accredited for five residents per year for the four year UI Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. The residency program features the Ryan Family Planning Program, a variety of gynecologic surgery and training in minimally invasive surgery.

There are five accredited fellowship programs. The Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Program is ACGME accredited. The fellowship programs in gynecologic oncology, maternal fetal medicine, combined maternal fetal medicine/clinical genetics and reproductive endocrinology and infertility are ABOG accredited.
