The Carver College of Medicine is committed to creating a positive environment in which you will succeed. There is a wide array of curricular and co-curricular opportunities to enhance learning and the development of skills important to the practice of medicine. Among those opportunities are: Community Health Outreach course; Learning Communities; Distinction Tracks; Research Global Programs and Mobile Clinic; the new Rural Training Program (CRISP) and many student-run organizations.
The home for medical education on the University of Iowa campus can be found in the state of the art Medical Education and Research Facility (MERF). Didactic lectures as well as small and large group learning takes place in the classrooms while 24 clinical suites provide the setting for you to interact with simulated and standardized patients as you learn clinical skills. Most of your clinical experiences will take place in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, which is routinely ranked among the best hospitals in the US. Some clinical experiences will take place in the Iowa City Veterans Administration Hospital. At least, one clinical rotation will be completed with physicians working in communities across the state of Iowa. You will have the opportunity to do clinical rotations at the Carver College of Medicine's branch campus which features several major hospitals in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Carver College of Medicine offers several combined degree programs. The Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD) is funded by the National Institutes of Health and is designed to integrate research and clinical medicine experiences while training the next generation of physician scientists. Additional combined degree programs include: Medical Doctor/Masters In Public Health, Medical Doctor/Masters in Business Administration and Medical Doctor/Juris Doctor.
At the conclusion of medical school, you will match into a residency program. Our students complete their training in a range of specialties in competitive residency programs all over the United States.
