robin-paetzold@uiowa.edu Introduction by Dr. Gerald DiBona
This medical student exchange program developed out of my personal experience of working within the medical education and training, research and patient care systems of Sweden over the last 25 years. There are many aspects of these systems in Sweden which contrast sharply with those in the USA. These differences and similarities provide new insights and understandings which are beneficial and significant for the expanding internationalization of medical education. Moreover, the characteristics of these systems reflect important cultural, social and political aspects of each country. This exchange program provides an opportunity to experience both the medical education system and living in Sweden
