You will register for each semester individually. Each semester will have different speakers.
Description
Global Health Seminar is a one credit elective course geared
towards medical students interested in global health issues including
research, clinical services, and development concerns. This course will
present a series of global health projects presented by UI faculty
members, medical students and special guests.
Objectives:
Participants in this course will:
- Examine approaches to global health through discussion of UI
research initiatives, clinical care, nongovernmental organization
administration, and educational efforts in global health both in the US
and internationally.
- Understand the basic challenges faced in the areas of global
health including medical, cultural, historical, economic and political
influences.
- Understand the relationship between research, education, population health and medical care.
- Explore options and issues relating to future global health opportunities as an individual.
Evaluation:
This course is evaluated on a pass/fail basis. In order to pass, students are expected to:
- Prepare for participation in each session by reading assigned materials in advance.
- Attend a minimum of 80% of class sessions.
- Submit two written questions for the session presenter at the beginning of each class session.
- Actively participate in class discussions.
- Sign-in on the attendance sheet each week.
Fall semester 2011 sessions will begin on September 1 and the last session will be held on December 1.
