Geriatrics Interest Group
We are a group of students interested in Geriatrics: Medicine for Older Adults. Geriatrics is a challenging but very rewarding specialty with many career opportunities. In fact, a recent study (Arch Intern Med 2002; 162: 1577-1584) found that Geriatric Internal Medicine physicians were more likely to have very high career satisfaction than physicians from 32 other specialties. As a newer group we have many opportunities for you to be involved!
Activities
- Luncheons: Opportunities to hear about the exciting field of geriatrics. Topics will include geriatric career options and information on the biological, medical, and social aspects of aging.
- Senior Mentor Program Activities
- Volunteer opportunities at the Iowa City Senior Center
- Great networking opportunities at casual get-togethers with geriatric faculty
