Clinical Clerkship Scheduling

All clinical clerkship scheduling and changes are made through our office. Due to limited capacity, core clerkship and advanced clerkship schedules are generated using an online request system and lottery. Information on advanced schedules is presented in the M3 class meeting held in August/September. Information on core year clerkship schedules is presented in the M1 class meeting held late in their spring semester. View your individual schedule.

Students interested in adding or dropping clerkships must contact Joan or Scott at CCOM-Reg-Schedules@uiowa.edu for all Advanced or Core changes at least 4 weeks before the start of the clerkship. Match

Information is presented at the M3 class meeting held in May. PDF icon An overview of the Match process.pdf

The Main Residency Match is run through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Residency program applications and interviews are handled through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS, pronounced "air-us") from the AAMC. A token to access ERAS is sent to you via email the first week of September during your M3 year. The NRMP and ERAS operate independently and each has their own set of fees. We upload your transcript and your Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) into ERAS. Letter writers are required to use the ERAS Letter of Recommendation Portal (LoRP). The MSPE has a national release date of October 1.

The Ophthalmology Match is operated through the SF Match and is completely separate from the main residency match. We will assist Ophthalmology applicants with their transcripts, letters, and MSPE. On the Monday of Match week, students learn if they've matched. Students going unmatched or partially unmatched will participate in the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP). Match Day is the third Friday of March. Letters indicating where students have matched are distributed at 11 a.m. on Match Day.

Questions? Contact Annette at annette-griffin@uiowa.edu or 1-319-335-6823.

Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)

The MSPE is created during the first few months of the M4 year and is released nationwide on October 1.  The MSPE describes, in a sequential manner, a student's performance, as compared to that of his/her peers, through three full years of medical school and, as much as possible, the fourth year. The MSPE includes an assessment of both the student's academic performance and professional attributes. When instructed, begin the MSPE process.
