  • MOST Cleft Palate Medical Mission

A unique opportunity is being planned again next year for up to two (2) UI M4 students to join a local Iowa Rotary Club medical mission team going to Guatemala in February 2013. The mission will focus on pediatric otolaryngology surgery and is anticipated to take 12 days. This annual cleft palate repair medical trip is overseen by Dr. John Canady.

Partial scholarship will be provided towards your costs on the team however you will be responsible for the balance.

If you would like to be considered for involvement in this medical mission, please submit a proposal to the address below by Noon Thursday, March 1.

Your proposal should describe your educational objectives, your current level of Spanish proficiency, your interest in a related medical specialty (special consideration will be given to interest in surgery, anesthesia, pediatrics, emergency medicine, etc), and any additional information that you feel qualifies you as a strong candidate. Students will be chosen based on their ability to help meet team needs.

The exact dates of this program are still being negotiated and we should know more in March 2012. When announced, the dates will not be flexible as this is a team project.
