About Us
Kidneeds was founded by Richard Smith, MD and Lynne Lanning, RN, JD in 1997. Their daughter Jenna has DDD/MPGNII. Kidneeds began awarding grants for DDD/MPGNII research a year later. To date, Kidneeds has raised over $1,000,000. Over $760,000 has been awarded to scientists around the world to study DDD/MPGNII.
Kidneeds is an Iowa non-profit corporation that is a fund of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation. It has 501(C)(3) status and all contributions are tax deductible to the extent the law allows.
Grant applications to Kidneeds are reviewed and scored by the Board of Scientific Advisors. Based on these scores, funding recommendations are made by the Board of Directors and finalized by the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.
