James A Hall, PHD., LISW, is a Professor of Pediatrics, Social Work, Public Health and Nursing. Dr. Hall is the Principal Investigator for Project Iowa SCY (Strengthening Communities for Youth) which is sponsored by SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. For the last 25 years, Dr. Hall has conducted research on the development and evaluation of interventions for the prevention and treatment of drug abuse with adults and adolescents. Over this time period, he has provided counseling services for adolescents and their families through the Adolescent Medicine Program at the University of Washington, University of California, San Diego, and now at the University of Iowa. Dr. Hall has been the Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator for five grants of NIDA, for three grants from SAMHSA, and for several evaluations of drug prevention or treatment programs in various setting including schools, health care, and communities. Currently, Dr. Hall is Co-Director of the Adolescent Medicine Program, providing clinical services to adolescents, teaching research to graduate social work students, and directing Project Iowa SCY.
