The UI Office of Health Science Relations provides communications services for the colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health and the State Hygienic Laboratory.
HSR's media unit prepares news releases and press advisories about UI-based research, education and other programs; facilitates media coverage of breaking news such as scientific discoveries; and assists centers, departments and programs in planning media strategy and events.

HSR's publications unit plans and produces publications for both internal and external audiences of the UI's health sciences colleges. These include periodicals such as staff and alumni newsletters and magazines; annual reports; and special purpose publications such as brochures. HSR provides written content, editorial and design services for both printed and electronic publications.

HSR is part of the Carver College of Medicine's Office of Communications and Advancement, which also includes the Office of Alumni and Collegiate Relations, Creative Media Group, Audiovisual Services, and Applied Media Production Services.
