Description of GCRC

 

The following summary can be used in grant applications to describe the facilities available at the University of Iowa General Clinical Research Center.

The General Clinical Research Center is in its 44th year of operation.  The current grant extends through February 2008 with an annual budget of over $3 million.  The unit is located in General Hospital and is staffed 24 hours/day by 12 research nurses.  The unit includes 12 inpatient beds, outpatient facilities, metabolic kitchen and research dietitians.

GCRC core facilities include analytical (RIA, ELISA, HPLC, GCMS), cardiovascular (endothelial function, hemodynamics), neurophysiology (microneurography, EEG), and body composition (DEXA, pQCT) laboratories. Biostatistical and informatics support are also available to all GCRC investigators. There is also an Oral Craniofacial Component sited in the College of Dentistry Center for Clinical Research.
