Jean Robillard, MD
Professor and Dean of the College of Medicine
Principal Investigator of the GCRC grant

As Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Robillard is the Principal Investigator for the GCRC Program Grant. Dr. Robillard was Professor and Chair of the department of Pediatrics at the University of Michigan Medical School and physician-in-chief at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital before moving to Iowa City.
Janet Schlechte, MD
Professor, College of Medicine
Principal Safety Officer, General Clinical Research Center


As Principal Safety Officer and head of the Research Safety Committee, Dr. Schlechte has responsibility for assuring the safety of GCRC research subjects. She received her M.D. degree at the University of Nebraska and residency and fellowship training in internal medicine and endocrinology at the University of Iowa. Her research interests include the pathophysiology of prolactin tumors and the relationship between hyperprolactinemic amenorrhea and bone loss.

 

Charles Dayton, RPh
Clinical Pharmacy Specialist
Associate Safety Officer, General Clinical Research Center

As Associate Research Safety Officer, Chuck Dayton performs the multiple functions of the Research Safety Office, including advising investigators on safety plan preparation, monitoring of the safety plan, monitoring the subject consenting process, and receiving and reviewing adverse event documentation for Safety Committee review. Mr. Dayton has a background in pulmonary human subjects clinical trials.

Charles Rebouche, PhD
Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics
Chair, GCRC Advisory Committee


As chairperson of the Advisory Committee, Dr. Rebouche oversees Committee review of programmatic issues and review of research protocols submitted for use of GCRC facilities and/or participation of GCRC personnel.  Dr. Rebouche received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Vanderbilt University in 1974, and was appointed to the faculty at the University of Iowa in 1984.  His research interests are in human nutrition and metabolism.
William G. Haynes, MD
Associate Professor, College of Medicine
Program Director, General Clinical Research Center


As Program Director, Dr. Haynes has responsibility for the entire center. His research interests include: assessment of endothelial and vascular function, and investigating the vascular effects of homocysteine, diabetes and hyperlipidemia. Dr. Haynes received his post-doctoral training at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and assumed a faculty position in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa in 1997.  more information...
John Widness, MD
Professor, Department of Pediatrics
Associate Director, General Clinical Research Center


As Associate Director, Dr. Widness oversees the neonatal scatter nurse activity. Dr. Widness graduated from Amherst College in Massachusetts and Duke University in North Carolina. His research involves the neonate's response to anemia and the therapeutic role of iron and erythropoietin.

Joel Kline, MD

Dr. Joel Kline is in charge of training activities in the GCRC.

Clark M. Stanford, DDS, PhD
Professor, College of Dentistry  
Associate Director, General Clinical Research Center


As associate director of the GCRC, Dr. Stanford oversees the Oral and Craniofacial Unit where he is the Dows Institute for Dental Research and Prosthodontics Centennial Fund Professor and Office of Clinical Research Director.  Clark also has appointments in Hospital Dentistry and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery (Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine).  He received his DDS from The University of Iowa in 1987 and a certificate in prosthodontics and PhD in Cell Biology from The University of Iowa in 1992.

His clinical research is in the area of implants, implant biomaterials and dental materials.  Dr. Stanford also has interest in bone metabolism, osteoblasts, and isolating and characterizing human osteogenic cells.

Mary McDermott
Administrative Manager, General Clinical Research Center

As Administrative Manager, Mary McDermott monitors protocol costs and protocol review and prepares an annual report of center activities.
Mike Bosch, RN
Nurse Manager, General Clinical Research Center

As Interim Nurse Manager, Mike oversees all research activities on the GCRC. 
Phyllis Stumbo, PhD, RD, LD
Nutrition Manager, General Clinical Research Center

As Nutrition Manager, Dr. Stumbo oversees the metabolic kitchen and nutrition consultation and assessment activities of the GCRC. A graduate of The Ohio State University and the University of Iowa, Dr. Stumbo actively participates in a variety of GCRC studies. She currently serves as Program Chair for the National Nutrient Databank Conference.
Leon Burmeister, PhD
Professor, Department of Biostatistics and 
Associate Dean for Research and Academic Affairs,

As Biostatistician at the GCRC, Dr. Burmeister gives final statistical approval for all projects. Dr. Burmeister received the BS, MS, and PhD degrees from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, before joining the faculty at the University of Iowa in 1977. His research aims to improve the health of Iowa farmers by examining the health effects of exposure to farm machinery and chemicals and evaluating the use of protective clothing and breathing devices during pesticide use. He is a member and active participant in numerous professional statistical and research societies.

Daryl J (DJ) Murry, PharmD
Associate Professor, College of Pharmacy
Core Laboratory Director, General Clinical Research Center


Dr. Murry oversees the day-to-day activities of the Laboratory Core and assists GCRC investigators with grant submissions pertaining to the Laboratory Core.  He received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Iowa.
