    Emergency Medicine Residency Program

    The Department of Emergency Medicine offers a fully ACGME-accredited three year residency training program with a philosophy to:

    • Train residents capable of functioning in austere medical environments with minimal back up
    • Provide flexibility in training to meet individualized learning needs
    • Foster academic emergency medicine through scientific discovery, expertise in emergency medicine subspecialties and peer-to-peer learning

    Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant Residency Program

    The department offers an 18-month postgraduate residency for physician assistants and advanced registered nurse practitioners, that is linked to the only emergency medicine physician residency in the state of Iowa. Emergency medicine advanced practice provider residents gain the opportunity to specialize in the field of emergency medicine while working alongside physician residents and seasoned clinicians at one of the top medical centers in the country. The Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant Residency Program aims to: 

    • Train emergency medicine mid-level providers with core competencies and skill sets allowing them to practice in any emergency, acute care, or intensive care setting, including the solo coverage of a critical access hospital emergency department with remote physician supervision
    • Provide flexibility in training to meet individualized learning needs
    • Foster academic emergency medicine through scientific discovery, expertise in emergency medicine subspecialties and peer-to-peer learning
