    EMSLRC Simulator

Housed within the department, is the fully accredited Emergency Medicine Learning Resource Center (EMSLRC), which offered the state's first paramedic training program and now teaches over half of the State of Iowa's paramedics. In existence for over thirty years, the EMSLRC offers two emergency medicine technician (EMT) and two paramedic specialist classes per year conducted in a full-time, academy-style fashion. The center also provides instruction for:

    • Advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric advanced life support (PALS)
    • Trauma nursing (TNCC)
    • Emergency nursing (ENPC)
    • Neonatal resuscitation (NRP)
    • Advanced trauma life support (ATLS)

The center also provides oversight to the department's mobile simulation vehicle, which is used routinely for various educational outreach programs, and events such as RAGBRAI—a worldwide bicycling attraction that sees thousands of participants from all fifty states.
