Research Summary

My laboratory has a long-term commitment to study the properties and functions of Glia Maturation Factor, a brain specific protein that we discovered in our laboratory at the Department of Neurology, the University of Iowa. My research group uses interdisciplinary approaches to understand the function of GMF and the regulation of inflammatory signaling pathways relevant to neurodegenerative diseases. I have an NIH RO1 funded program on GMF-depended neuro inflammation and neuro degeneration, an NIH RO1 funded program on GMF in CNS Inflammation and a VA Merit Review Award funded program on the role of GMF in Dementia. Our work embraces neuroimmunology, neuropathology, molecular biology, and neurochemistry. The lab is highly collaborative and multidisciplinary, offering a rich training environment in neuroscience. My laboratory has many years experience in using immunocytochemical techniques to examine tissue samples using both light and epifluorescence microscopy. I will provide any training and guidance to the best of my ability.
