Our research focuses on control of upper limb movements to acquire visual targets with the hand and on recovery of hand movement control following brain injury. We study healthy individuals and subjects who have suffered brain trauma due to stroke and surgery. We also investigate how the brain interprets visual and proprioceptive information to specify location and orientation of external objects and upper limb segments. Movement control studies involve manipulating visual, vestibular and/or somatosensory information prior to and during reaching to point to or grasp visual targets. We also investigate control of finger motions and forces exerted by the fingers when acquiring and manipulating objects under various conditions.
