Dr. Carter’s clinical interests include pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, and acute lung injury. His research interests are related to the regulation of inflammatory and fibrotic responses that occur in the lung in models of acute lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis. These studies include investigations dealing with the role of reactive oxygen species and antioxidant enzymes in the development of inflammatory/fibrotic response and the regulation of the signal transduction pathways in monocytes and macrophages that induce the development of pulmonary fibrosis. This work is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health.
