Research Summary

Dr. Kwitek is an animal and human geneticist whose research revolves around dissecting the genetic components of complex disease in rat and human, with an emphasis on hypertension, diabetes, and the metabolic syndrome. Her use of genome-wide approaches such as QTL mapping, comparative genomics, transcriptomics, and high-throughput genotyping has led to the identification of loci and genes involved in diabetes and cardiovascular disease in both rat models and human populations. Her current work is focused on combining traditional positional cloning approaches with, functional genomics and in silico mapping strategies to identify genes and pathways involved in the Metabolic Syndrome.
