Research Summary

Research in our laboratory centers on the molecular origins of cardiovascular disease. Current studies concentrate on mutations in alpha-smooth muscle actin that cause a range of cardiovascular diseases in children and adults, including Familial Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm and Dissection. We are working to determine the components of actin function and regulation that are perturbed in vascular disease. We use the yeast expression system for detailed studies on the effects of the mutations in vivo and in vitro.
