Research Summary

Colleen Kennedy, MD, MS is in her second year on the tenure track (Assistant Professor) in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She was awarded a k-23 mentored clinical research for vulvar diseases and bladder and bowel symptoms and has recently started year 4. She is the Director of the Vulvar Vaginal Disease Clinic, and Colposcopy Clinics. Her research interest is diseases of the lower genital tract (vulvar, vaginal, and cervical) and more specifically vulvar pain syndromes. Current research projects include: 1) the completion of analysis of a cross- sectional study comparing symptoms and medical history of women encountered in the vulvar specialty clinic and the gynecology clinics (k award); 2) retrospective case series of various vulvar disorders (symptoms, treatments, and outcomes) of women treated in the vulvar specialty clinic over 8+ years; and 3) initiating a new pilot study comparing gabapentin to placebo for treatment of localized and generalized vulvar pain. She has also worked on clinical trials (PI and investigator) for industry: phase 1 and 2 trials for cervical dysplasia treatment, and phase 3 trials for HPV vaccine.
