She is the Director of the Iowa Research Network (IRENE). Her main research interests are improvement of quality of care for primary care prevention and women's health issues. She has several years' experience with conducting practice-based research, including an intervention study to improve osteoporosis detection and a cross-sectional study of patterns of colorectal cancer screening among IRENE physicians. She is the PI on an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) funded study to test whether trained nurse educators can improve diabetes care in rural practices with the help of a computer-aided patient survey of their health behaviors. This is a collaborative project with Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield. She has also received Health Resources Services Administration funding for four three-year Primary Care Predoctoral Training Grants to improve medical student education. In 2004, she was selected as Educator of the Year by the Iowa Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Levy serves on the University of Iowa Institutional Review Board. She has been a member of AHRQ National Cancer Institute Special Emphasis Panels to review grant proposals on colorectal cancer screening in primary care and was recently asked to participate as a guest reviewer on the Health Services Organization and Delivery (HSOD) study section.
