Dr. M. Nia Madison, PhD, has recently discovered that human biofluid-derived exosomes and extracellular vesicles (EV) inhibit HIV infectivity, replication and transmission. She is currently working to elucidate 1) the mechanisms involved in EV-mediated restriction of infectivity and sexual transmission of retroviruses, 2) the role of EV on HIV latency and 3) the impact of host restriction factors sequestered within extracellular vesicles on HIV replication and mutagenesis.
