Research Description

My lab studies Francisella tularensis which is the causative organism of tularemia as well as a Category A Select Agent for biodefense. Currently, I am investigating the differential roles of macrophages and neutrophil in initiation, dissemination, and resolution of human infection. Our lab has shown that Francisella tularensis delays spontaneous programmed cell death (apoptosis) in infected neutrophils. My project focuses on the molecular mechanism of this delay as well as its implications in disease progression.
