Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive opportunistic pathogen that is a major cause of both hospital and community-associated infections. The ability to form a biofilm on implanted devices and host tissues plays an important role in the ability of S. aureus to cause more severe and chronic infections such as osteomyelitis and endocarditis. My research focuses on the characterizing the interaction between the proteins and extracellular DNA (eDNA) that make up the biofilm matrix.
