Research Description: Features within 5’ untranslated regions (5’UTRs) of mRNA have been shown to play a role in their translation, localization and degradation. Despite this, there remains a real gap in knowledge regarding the precise lengths of 5’UTR in eukaryotes. My research project within the Logsdon lab aims to measure 5’UTR lengths for a wide variety of S. cerevisiae genes during several physiological states, and to begin to ascribe functional meaning to these data on a genomic level.
