| All students will participate in a small discussion group with a faculty member serving as a facilitator. Each week a research paper will be assigned and each paper will be made available 5-7 days in advance of the discussion section. Each paper will be made available as an Adobe PDF on the course web site. | ||||||
| Students are expected to read and evaluate each assigned paper in advance and prepare a short report that will be due at the start of the discussion section each week. No late reports will be accepted. | ||||||

| Each report will be worth a total of 5 points as outlined below. These written reports will be a maximum length of 1 page (single-spaced). | ||||||
| 2 points | ||||||
| State the major hypothesis tested in the paper | ||||||
| 3 points | ||||||
| Select a key experiment presented in the research paper that tests the hypothesis and breifly discuss each of the following: | ||||||
| 1. What were the controls for that particular experiment and were they adequate? | ||||||
| 2. How does it test the hypothesis? | ||||||
| 3. What do the authors infer from these data? | ||||||
