  • What We Do

    The vision of the Center on Aging (COA) is to be recognized nationally for academic excellence. The mission of the COA is to lead and support interdisciplinary efforts at the University of Iowa that advance the health and independence of older adults through education, research, and service activities.

    Goals
    i) To strengthen and expand graduate and professional training as well as public education in aging (geriatrics and gerontology) through Center directed activities, collaborations with other UI centers and departments, and participation in the Iowa Consortium of Aging Programs;

    ii) To sustain faculty who lead interdisciplinary research projects that incorporate innovative approaches to the study of healthy and independent aging, and to serve as co-investigators and consultants for other faculty who propose and pursue research in aging both inside and outside the University of Iowa;

    iii) To serve the Carver College of Medicine, the College of Public Health, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and other local, state, and national organizations through consultation, policy analysis and program evaluation, and information sharing.
